Kindergarten Unit Lesson Plan Introduction: My kindergarten learners are very diverse. It is comprised of twenty-one 5 and 6 year old students. There are 11 boys and 10 girls. In my class, there are children with ADHD, severe learning disabilities, multiple ESL learners, Cerebral Palsy, Severe Behavior, and other assortment of needs. Unit Summary: This lesson unit focuses on the life cycle of butterflies. Students will learn about the growth cycle of a butterfly and what the stages are by name. Students will particiapate in different activities to support their learning and share what they learned. Lesson Overview Subject: Science Unit Title: Life Cycle of Butterflies New Jersey Common Core Standards: 5.1 All students will develop problem-solving, decision-making and inquiry skills, reflected by formulating usable questions and hypotheses, planning experiments, conducting systematic observations, interpreting and analyzing data, drawing conclusion, and communicating results. Goals: Students will conduct investigations and build an understanding of the butterfly life cycle 1. Students be able to describe the four stages of the life cycle of a butterfly 2. Students will identify the stages of the life cycle of the butterfly by name Methods: Pre-assessment: Ask students to tell you what they know about the life cycle of butterflies.
